Affection System 101: Reading Reactions & Avoiding Bad Ends

You can’t brute-force affection. You earn it by playing a character Jeff understands.
How Do You Catch Jeff’s Attention in Fear Me?
Show steady curiosity instead of fear or contempt. Jeff’s hidden affection score rises when you meet his intensity with calm interest, honesty and a little nerve, and it drops when you run, call for help, mock him or flip between friendly and hostile. On Day 1 that means taking your badge back without escalating; on later days it means keeping the same tone even when he tests you. In Easy Mode a heart icon appears next to the choices he likes, which is the fastest way to learn what “attention” actually looks like to him. High affection is what opens the hospital scene safely, keeps your Day 5 ally alive, and unlocks the silent “...” option that leads to the True Ending.
What Affection Actually Rewards
- Consistency: if you’re gentle, stay gentle; if you’re firm, stay firm—just not cruel.
- Presence: keep conversations alive. Abrupt exits read as rejection.
- Courage with care: spine without mockery lands best.
How to Read the Room
- Watch pacing—does he press or pause?
- Note word choice—taunting vs. testing.
- When in doubt, de-escalate without groveling.
Avoiding Sudden Deaths
- Don’t run on impulse; plan exits through dialogue.
- Keep allies above board; secrets look like betrayal.
- Save before big mood swings.
Use affection as a compass, not a scoreboard. When the final night comes, your tone—not a number—unlocks the ending you want.
