Is The Freak Circus Day 3 Out Yet?
No. Day 3 has not been released, and no release date exists. That is not us reading tea leaves in a quiet devlog feed — the developer said it directly. Asked about a date someone had seen on TikTok, the official blog replied: “As of now, there is no set time for day3, but any updates will be found on Neko’s Patreon or HERE first!” (source). If you have seen a specific Day 3 date, that is where it came from, and it is not official.
The itch.io side points the same way. The most recent devlog, Official merch! Plush and partnership (July 14, 2026), says only “I’m working on new chapter, you can see more detailed update on official Tumblr” — and the words “working on new chapter” are hyperlinked to a developer post literally titled No release date has been set yet (devlog).
Worth stating plainly, because the merch announcement worried some players: the update is not on hold. The developer wrote, “I refuse to put the game’s update on hold! So yes, that means I’m also working hard on getting the Day 3 update out at the same time” (source).
What the Developer Has Actually Said About Day 3 Progress
Progress goes up as a recurring “Weekly update - Day3” series on the official Tumblr. The most recent one puts the work at the art-and-scene stage rather than anywhere near release: “I’m still working on the café scene! A lot happens here, so you’ll probably be seeing this background until you’re tired of it”, adding that “a few other characters will likely need new sprites, along with some additional backgrounds” (source).
The weekly update before it put the same scene further along on the code side: “A good portion of the café scene has already been programmed, but it still needs a few simple sprites. I’ll probably use placeholders for now and finish those after the beta testing is complete!” (source). So: script done, a chunk of programming done, art outstanding, beta testing still ahead of it.
On scope, an earlier post announced “The script is finally finished! It ended up at 76 pages (the previous chapter had 47 pages)” and that “this update includes 1 new bad ending and 2 new hidden scenes (there might be more after the full script revision)” (source). One honest caveat: that post never uses the words “Day 3”. It says “the script” and “this update”, and it sits among the Day 3 posts — so attaching those numbers to Day 3 is context, not a direct quote. Treat 76 pages / 1 ending / 2 scenes as provisional; the same post says a full revision was still underway.
You will notice we have not dated those Tumblr posts. That is deliberate — the blog does not render a timestamp we could verify, and we would rather give you the developer’s exact words and a permalink than a date we guessed at.
What You Can Actually Play Right Now
The current build is v0.2 and the itch.io Status field reads Prototype. It contains Day 1 and Day 2. Platforms are HTML5, Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, so you can play it in the browser through the embedded player or download it — but there is no downloadable web archive, so browser play means playing on itch.io itself. The Android build is garula.thefreakcircus-0.2.apk at 423 MB.
Browser-playable and Android-capable is rarer in this genre than people assume. Of the twelve horror dating sims we checked page by page, only four run in a browser at all — see our verified browser and Android matrix for the rest.
Content warning first, though. The official page carries an 18+ rating with warnings covering blood, death, murder and gore, cannibalism allusions, abuse, kidnapping, non-consensual drug use and physical domination. This is a much heavier game than its circus art suggests, and the warnings are on the official page for a reason — read them before starting.
Who Can You Romance?
Only Pierrot and Harlequin. The official Askbox FAQ takes the question “How do I romance Jester/Ticket Taker/Doctor/Boss?” and answers: “At the moment, you don’t. The only options as of now are Pierrot, Harlequin, both of them, or neither of them” (source).
Note the hedging in the developer’s own wording — “at the moment”, “as of now”. That post is also older than the Day 3 weekly updates, so it describes the current build rather than closing the door forever. What it does not support is the claim, common on aggregator sites, that the rest of the cast is romanceable today.
What Day 2 Added
Day 2 shipped in late 2025 without a release devlog of its own. The November 15, 2025 post promised “the next notification you get will be the update release!”, but the next devlog was a bug-status post on December 5 about an already-live build. So it landed between those two dates, and no official post states the day — we are not going to invent one.
What the update was announced to contain, from the pre-release devlogs: it introduces Ticket Taker, Jester and the Doctor — “Alongside Pierrot and Harlequin, this update will properly introduce you to Ticket Taker, Jester, and the Doctor” (devlog) — each in their own tent, and the story “will continue from all three endings: the two where you’re taken by Pierrot, and the one where you return home” (devlog).
It was also announced to add unlockable “hidden scenes” reachable from the menu, animated sprites, a redesigned menu, and the Android build. By October 2025 the developer put the update at “over 100 new images, including new sprites and backgrounds” (devlog).
One caveat we will not paper over: every one of those feature descriptions comes from a devlog written before release. No post-release devlog re-confirms that each item shipped exactly as described, so read them as what was announced rather than as a verified changelog.
